In 1984, Cathy and Niel purchased a small pizzeria consisting of wooden picnic tables and benches with a mere 16 seats – they named it Papa Joes.
Since then, over the span of 30 years, Cathy and Niel’s hard work and commitment to great food and service enabled them to grow the business and undergo several expansions.
Papa Joes’ most significant expansion occurred in 1993 to our current location on Commack Road.
In 2003, with their continued good fortune, Cathy and Neil were able to extend the brand into a catering-focused venue called Bella Verde.
Bella Verde, located on a 9-hole golf course in Heartland Village, hosts events ranging from weddings, engagement parties, fundraisers, birthday parties, bar mitzvahs and other special occasions.

Recently, Anthony (Niel and Cathy’s son) has returned from a 7 year stint with Abigail Kirsch, one of the premier caterers in New York.
Anthony has teamed up with Chef James Ahern to launch a new concept, Verde Wine Bar and Ristorante – a sophisticated American Wine Bar and Restaurant, specializing in Italian cuisine and contemporary mixology.
Verde Wine Bar and Ristorante will proudly serve guests local, sustainable products.
